David Alvarez has worked at Spectra Symbol since May of 2021.
Since starting, David has been a joy to work with!
He always comes in early and works hard to ensure that the Inventory Department is running smoothly. He is typically the first to volunteer to help out for any project.
Thank you David! We are glad to have you here!

Coherent, Inc. produces sophisticated devices for laser cutting, engraving, and spectrum analysis. Since before 1995 Spectra Symbol has provided them with a rotary sensor to control their ModeMaster M2 Beam Propagation Analyzer. This device measures the power and intensity of a laser beam and determines how stable the beam is. The more stable the laser, the more accurate and powerful the beam will be over long distances.
Our part is used in Coherent’s device to delicately line up the laser beam with the analyzer. The more accurately we make our part, the easier it is to use their device. Coherent relies on us to provide a high-quality component, keeping their technology on the cutting edge.

On June 28 and 29, 2022, Sensors Converge held their annual expo and conference in San Jose, CA.
"For 37 years Sensors Expo & Conference has brought together the design engineering community to network, share ideas, and define the future roadmap for the sensors industry." - sensorsconverge.com
Due to Covid-19, the conference hasn't been held in-person for the last 2 years and Spectra Symbol took the opportunity to have an exhibit at this year's comeback show and sent a team consisting of David and Daniel Marriott, Anita Bromage and Justin Whiting to show off Spectra Symbol's standard sensor offerings and to introduce the new Flex HR sensor and Glove technologies to potential customers and markets. The conference was well attended and the team came back with some leads for new business and were able to strengthen existing relationships with current customer's that they met with at the conference.
Successful businesses have employees who depend on one another and keep their promises and commitments to and with each other. The more engaged employees are in the business, the better the outcomes. Focused on a common goal, armed with the knowledge to act, the freedom to go after it, and fire in the belly, they are unstoppable. They almost always exceed expectations.
One of the most important goals of Lean manufacturing is the elimination of waste. Taiichi Ohno, father of the Toyota Production System (TPS), defined three categories of waste: Muri, Mura, and Muda.
Muda: means wastefulness, uselessness and futility and refers to processes or activities that don’t add value. These types of waste do not help your business or workers in any way. They increase costs and make tasks take much longer than they should. Muda are not the sole type of waste, but they are the easiest to understand and relatively easy to identify by observation. Muda hunting has become a regular activity, sometimes even popular activity in some companies.
Mura: means unevenness, non-uniformity, irregularity, and variability which drives and leads to Muda. Variability can take multiple aspects and its sources of are innumerable and generate waste as some of the output must be reworked or even discarded. The Japanese approach seeks to eliminate the causes of irregularities and not hide them with buffers. By gradually decreasing the size of buffer stocks, causes of irregularities are revealed and it is possible to eliminate / reduce them. The basic idea is that every workflow must flow smoothly like a river. If obstacles are disturbing its course, remove the obstacles, do not add water.
Muri: means overburden, beyond one’s power, excessiveness, impossible or unreasonableness, like the use of oversized or excessive means relative to the need or the desired result. Muri is also about the physical overload, the hardship, exposure to mental stress, which lead to wasting energy, health and ultimately human capital. Muri can result from Mura and in some cases be caused by excessive removal of Muda (waste) from the process. Standardize work can help avoid Muri by designing the work processes to evenly distribute the workload and not overburden any particular employee or equipment.
